Pakistan vs West Indies Second Test
Spin was expected to win for Pakistan, and spin won the first Test comfortably against the West Indies. The series closes out with the second match at the same Multan Cricket Stadium starting from Saturday, with the first ball to be bowled at 10 am IST.
The hosts showed how good their bowling attack is in these conditions. Their spinners combined to take all 20 wickets and should once again fancy the conditions. I am backing the home team to close out the series with a 2-0 score.
- Pakistan won their last 3 home matches (Tests).
- Pakistan won 6 of their last 7 home matches against the West Indies (Tests).
- West Indies lost 6 of their last 8 matches (Tests).
- Away from home, the Windies lost 7 of their last 8 matches (Tests).
Head to Head
Pakistan and the West Indies have played 55 Tests so far, with 22 wins for the Men in Green and 18 for the Islanders. The remaining 15 ended in a draw.
The first Test at the same venue saw Pakistan score 230 in the first innings. The Windies were then restricted to 137, gaining a 93-run lead. They could only manage 157 in the second innings, setting a target of 251, but the visitors could only get to 123.
Pakistan Form
Pakistan is already ruled out of the running for the WTC final and was coming off a 2-0 series loss to South Africa away from home before winning the first match.
Saud Shakeel (84) and Rizwan (71) starred with the bat in the first innings of the first Test, before Shan Masood (52) played a captain’s knock in the second.
With the ball, Sajid Khan had a brilliant match (4 for 65 and 5 for 50), while Abrar Ahmed took five wickets and Noman Ali took six for the match.
Pakistan Team News
There’s no reason Pakistan could change their playing XI, unless opener Muhammad Hurraira is replaced by Imam-ul-Haq.
West Indies Form
West Indies remain rooted to the bottom of the WTC points tally and came here after drawing a home series against Bangladesh 1-1. They were found wanting in the first match, with spinners contributing to their downfall.
Jayden Seales (3 for 27) and Jomel Warrican (3 for 69) led the bowling charge in the first innings, while Warrican (7 for 32) went on to impress in the second innings to give the Windies a chance.
The batters struggled, though, with only Warrican (31) scoring something effective in the first innings. It was Alick Athanaze (55) who impressed in the second innings, but it wasn’t enough to turn things around.
West Indies Team News
Kemar Roach was out of the first Test but could slot back in the place of Seales. If they want to make a change in the batting order, it could be Amir Jangoo getting a chance to debut.

Verdict
Pakistan showed how much their spin triplets love these conditions. Multan’s pitch was unforgiving, as the Windies batters failed to counter anything that was thrown at them. It could once again be the case in the second Test, and I am backing Pakistan to win.
