    Zimbabwe Cricket

Governed by Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), Zimbabwe’s national cricket set-up has been around for more than four decades.

Zimbabwe first acquired Associate Member status in July 1981 before the International Cricket Council (ICC) awarded the country Full Member status in 1992.

Formerly known as Rhodesia, Zimbabwe participated in the South Africa domestic circuit occasionally from 1904 to 1932.

In the last two decades, Zimbabwe Cricket has been hit hard by the worsening political situation in the country as well as financial struggles, which led to a mass exodus of the best players in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe played their first ODI against Australia in June 1983 in Nottingham, which was their first ODI World Cup.

Zimbabwe participated in their first Test match against India in Harare in October 1992. The country also played its first T20I against Bangladesh in November 2006.

    Logan Cup

The Logan Cup, named after James Douglas Logan, is Zimbabwe’s top-tier first-class tournament.

The first edition of the Logan Cup was played in 1993-94 and five teams participate in the tournament each year.

With Zimbabwe regularly playing Test series against some of the best nations in the world, the Logan Cup is considered one of the most prestigious cricket tournaments in the region.

    Pro50 Championship

The Pro50 Championship is Zimbabwe’s premier List A competition, which is administered by ZC. The first edition of the Pro50 Championship was played in 2002-03. Five teams participate in the tournament in a round-robin format followed by a knockout phase.

Between 2002-06, six teams participated in the Pro50 Championship: Midlands, Matabeleland, Masvingo, Mashonaland, Manicaland and Namibia (2004-2005).

The tournament was then revamped into a five-team tournament with Centrals, Easterns, Northerns, Southerns and Westerns.

The current teams in the Pro50 Championship are Mountaineers, Mid West Rhinos, Mashonaland Eagles, Matabeleland Tuskers and Southern Rocks.

    Domestic T20 Competition

The Domestic T20 competition in Zimbabwe has undergone several changes from the first edition back in 2006-07.

The tournament has gone through several title sponsors since its inception, including Stanbic Bank and Metropolitan Bank.

Five teams participate in the domestic T20 tournament in Zimbabwe: Mountaineers, Mid West Rhinos, Mashonaland Eagles, Matabeleland Tuskers and Southern Rocks.
