Breakout IPL Stars The top 5 emerging talents revealed

We are on the cusp of playoffs in the IPL 2025 competition, and what a season it has been! While the traditional stars have given us the performances we expected of them, there were some breaking stars who took the league by storm.
  • Breakout IPL Stars The top 5 emerging talents revealed
  • 1. Vaibhav Suryavanshi (Rajasthan Royals)
  • 2. Priyansh Arya – Punjab Kings
  • 3. Ayush Mhatre – Chennai Super Kings
  • 4. Sai Sudharsan – Gujarat Titans
  • 5. Dewald Brevis - Chennai Super Kings

Some of those youngsters are here to stay. In this piece, we look at a few breakout stars that are set to make the cricket world their own.

1. Vaibhav Suryavanshi (Rajasthan Royals)

It would be an injustice if we didn’t include him purely because he’s not of age! No one expected a 14-year-old to be picked up at the mega auction for INR 1.1 crore. Rajasthan took a punt when they did that, and it looks like they knew what they were getting into!

Here is a star that has shown that he’s far more mature beyond his years. A 35-ball century to record the fastest century by an Indian batter was stunning not just for the impact, efficiency, and skill but also for the fact that he’s just starting his career in cricket.

2. Priyansh Arya – Punjab Kings

When Ricky Ponting was asked before the start of the season about his new role with Punjab, he spoke glowingly about Priyansh Arya. He said that this kid is going to be a sensation.

And sensation he was! Priyansh started the season with some brilliant cameos, showing that he’s here to show his fearless cricket. The first example of his talent came to display when he scored a stunning century against Chennai that was complete with shots all around the ground. Another youngster who’s perhaps unearthed by IPL for India!

3. Ayush Mhatre – Chennai Super Kings

In an ideal world, Ruturaj Gaikwad would have been scoring effortlessly at the top for Chennai. His untimely injury, though, opened the door for Chennai to sign a 17-year-old young batter, Ayush Mhatre.

The Super Kings aren’t known to throw youngsters to the forefront easily, but once Mhatre started playing, we understood why he’s an exception. He started showcasing his calibre with some brisk cameos, but his moment under the sun came against Royal Challengers Bengaluru when he scored 94 and became the third youngest to score an IPL fifty. That left us wondering, what if Chennai had played him from the get-go?

4. Sai Sudharsan – Gujarat Titans

It seems a bit surreal that he’s still being talked about as an emerging talent, but that’s who he still is! The 23-year-old southpaw scored 527 runs last season and showed his worth, but no one could have guessed what’s in store this year.

The left-hander has already scored more than 600 runs, but it’s the manner of scoring that has stunned everyone. He has started most of his innings this year with a high tempo, something which he’s been criticised for. This young player is prepared to dedicate himself to addressing his technical shortcomings. Don’t be surprised if he gets his Test cap in the upcoming England series!

5. Dewald Brevis - Chennai Super Kings

A name that isn’t new to the IPL fans, thanks to his earlier stint with the Mumbai Indians, but Dewald Brevis had a due to settle with this competition. ‘Baby AB’, as he’s fondly called, has sparkled only occasionally and wasn’t picked up in the mega auction.

Yet, when CSK wanted a replacement for one of their injured players, they went for Brevis. The 21-year-old prodigy played just four matches before leaving home when the tournament was suspended. He made them count with 126 runs at a rate of 163.63, including a scintillating 50 against Kolkata, where he scored 30 runs in one over.
