The Ashes returns in Australia with a series that is as hotly-anticipated as ever. Australia will host England this time, with the former the favourites to secure the glory and ensure England's wait to get their hands back on the urn goes on.
England arrive looking to hammer Australia into submission with their aggressive batting and lightning quick bowling attack. Australia will bring a team full of talent, and they will target another series win to nil, with the Aussies beating England to nil in their last three home series.
Joe Root vs Steve Smith, Jofra Archer vs Mitchell Starc, Ben Stokes vs Pat Cummins, this Ashes series may yet prove to be the most competitive and unpredictable ever.
After the opening Test, Australia lead the series 1-0 following an eight-wicket win. In the first Test, both batting line-ups were found wanting at times, but the Aussies pulled themselves together in their second innings to eventually cruise to victory.

Teams & Format
The two sides will meet in the Test format. A Test match is the longest of the three major formats, with matches lasting five days at a time. This is not to say that a game has to go the distance, with some matches ending after a few days if the difference between the sides is massive.
In a Test match, teams will have a total of 20 wickets to defend, with these spread across two innings made up of 10 wickets. The winning side is the team that can score the most runs across the match.
The Ashes sees arch-rivals Australia taking on England in the most anticipated series in the game. The Ashes is a competition that defies belief at times, with some of the greatest batting innings and bowling displays carried out in the series.
Australia are the favourites heading into the series, with home advantage generally seeing them as the side to back. The hot and dry conditions down under tend to be used better by Australia's aggressive pace bowlers, while their spinners are excellent at using the rough patches created by their bowlers.
For England, the focus will be on using their excellent batch of pace bowlers in an attempt to match and surpass their opponents. The pair are fairly evenly-matched across the pitch, meaning this one could be won by the side that starts better and can use the conditions best.
Key Players & Prospects
| Player (Team) | Prospects |
|---|---|
| Ben Stokes (England) | England's Test captain is lethal with both bat and ball. If he can stay fit and play as an all-rounder, then England's chances of winning this series will rise. However, fitness has been an issue for Stokes, and England will really miss his aggressive spells with the ball if he is unable to bowl. |
| Steve Smith (Australia) | Australia's key batter, Steve Smith loves playing against England, and he will be the prized wicket in this Australian side with his ability to turn the tables on any team with patient batting then turning into run scoring with ease. |
| Jofra Archer (England) | Like Stokes, Jofra Archer will be vital to England, but fitness is a concern. Archer has tended to need time off to let his body recover, meaning a five-match Ashes series will test him to the limit. If he can play consistently and hit 90mph+ with the ball, then he could really enhance England's chances of winning this series. |
| Nathan Lyon (Australia) | Despite there being so many good pace bowling options, Nathan Lyon's spin will likely prove to be the difference between the two sides. Lyon is a master of using the rough to pull any movement from the old ball, while he can also hold down an end with consistent lines. |
