Austria Cricket Schedule

The history of cricket in Austria goes all the way back to the late stages of the 19th century. However, cricket lost any traction it gained until after the Second World War, when British troops would occasionally play the game.

Cricket started to find its footing towards the end of the 20th century. Kerry Tattersall brought the game to his students at a commercial academy where he was teaching. This resulted in the formation of the Vienna Cricket Club. Other clubs were soon part of Austrian cricket, including United Nations CC and Five Continents CC. These teams are still part of the Austrian domestic structure. The majority of cricket in Austria takes place in and around the capital city of Vienna.

Austria’s first international match was in 1990 at the European Cricketer Cup, in Guernsey. The ICC awarded Affiliate status to Austria in 1992. A decade later, Austria participated in the ICC European Championships which was followed by a seven-year hiatus from the tournament. Austria’s next official tournament was in the European Championship Division Four in Cyprus.

In 2014, Austria participated in the ICC European Championship Division 2, which resulted in their promotion to the ICC WCL Europe Division 1.

The ICC then awarded Austria Associate Member status in 2017 as part of its overhaul program. Austria played their first T20I against Romania in 2019 at the Moara Vlasiei Cricket Ground.
