Hungary Cricket Schedule

While the progress of cricket in Hungary has been more recent, there is prevalence of cricket history in the region in the 1990s. The first cricket club was set up in Budapest in 1991. Dr. Padma Gannoruwa began to advance cricket in Hungary with a team that consisted of locals from Hungary as well as expats.

Tangible advancement of cricket in Hungary was observed only in the late 2000s. In 2007, the Hungarian Cricket Association (HCA) was set up with an executive board that included David Brown, Andrew Leckonby and Andy Grieve.

In June 2012, Hungary had its moment in cricket as the ICC awarded the country Affiliate Member status at a conference in Kuala Lumpur. Hungary played their first international match in August 2008 against Bulgaria.

In 2018, Hungary was awarded Associate Member status by the ICC as part of the international governing body’s program to include all their members as Associates. In September 2021, Hungary played their first ever T20I against Czech Republic at the Moara Vlasiei Cricket Ground.
