Bangladesh has played India in 41 ODIs so far, winning only eight and losing 32. One match finished without a result. That said, three of those wins have come in the last five matches, and Bangladesh could be confident of springing a surprise.

The last meeting between these matches was in Pune in 2023 in the ICC World Cup, when India won by seven wickets, with Virat Kohli scoring a match-winning unbeaten century.

Bangladesh were the losing semi-finalists in 2017, when the tournament was last played. They were last seen in this format in December 2024, when they lost 3-0 in the West Indies.

The Tigers didn’t have an auspicious practice either, losing by seven wickets to Pakistan ‘A’ after they were bowled out for just 202. Yet, captain Najmul Shanto is adamant that they are here to win the tournament.

The absence of Shakib Al Hasan is a blow, but they have the experience of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah to guide them through.

The four players from the squad of 15 to miss out could be Jaker Ali, Parvez Hossain, Tanzim Hasan, and Nasum Ahmed.

India Form

India won this tournament a joint-high two times and were the losing finalist in the previous edition. They will be playing all their matches in Dubai, which could be a blessing, as other teams will have to shuttle between Karachi and Dubai.

The Men in Blue blanked England 3-0 in the ODIs leading up to this tournament, but this is one format they haven’t played much since the 2023 ICC World Cup.

All eyes will be on Virat Kohli, who has struggled in recent times, but has a fascinating love affair with this tournament. The absence of Jasprit Bumrah is a big blow, but they have the returning Mohammed Shami plus a plethora of spin options.

India Team News

Washington Sundar, Rishabh Pant, and Varun Chakaravarthy are unlikely to get a place in the starting XI. It could be a toss-up between Harsit Rana and Arshdeep Singh for the second seamer, although the conditions could see India go for an extra fast bowling option and bench Ravindra Jadeja.
