Australia vs India Third Test
A stirring comeback in the second match meant Australia raced ahead of India in terms of momentum. With the series tied at 1-1, there’s so much at stake as the teams move back to red-ball action with the third Test to be played at the Gabba in Brisbane from Saturday, December 14.

Taking advantage of their Pink Ball exploits, Australia swept India out of the way in Adelaide. I feel they have a big advantage now, which gets amplified as Jasprit Bumrah is under an injury cloud. I am backing the hosts to march ahead and take a lead in the series.
- Australia has won 9 of their last 11 matches at this venue (Tests)
- Australia won 5 of their 7 matches against India at this venue (Tests)
- India lost their last 4 matches under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy (Tests)
Head to Head
There have been 109 Tests between Australia and India so far, with the Aussies winning 46, the Men in Blue winning 33, and 29 ending in draws. There was also a tied Test between these two modern rivals.
The first Test was won by India by 295 runs at the Perth Stadium in Perth. Australia managed to bounce back in the second match with a 10-wicket win in Adelaide.
Australia Form
Australia bounced to second in the WTC points table with 60.71 percentage points. If they win two of their remaining three Tests against India, they can afford to lose their two-Test series against Sri Lanka and still reach the final.
The Aussies have enjoyed Travis Head’s impressive record against India (240 runs, SR 94.11), who’s even scoring at a fair clip. The worry is still Steve Smith’s form, with only 19 runs in the series.
Mitchell Starc (11 wickets) and Pat Cummins (10) have been the stars of their win in Adelaide, taking five wickets in an innings once each. They now would look to replicate the form with a red ball.
Australia Team News
Josh Hazlewood should be back after missing the second Test with an injury, which means Scott Boland could sit out here.
India Form
India dropped to third in the WTC standings with 57.29 percentage points and has complicated their chances of reaching the final. They need two wins and a draw to assure themselves of a final place, and any other combination would need help from elsewhere.
The Men in Blue have been struggling with their batting, as the scores of 150, 180, and 175 indicate. Only Nitish Kumar Reddy, who top-scored three times out of their four innings, has shone brightly.
Jasprit Bumrah took 12 wickets in the series but will be under an injury cloud after Adelaide. Siraj has nine wickets but may have to step up and lead the attack.
India Team News
India faces some tough decisions, as Bumrah could be unavailable. That could open the door for either Prasidh Krishna or Mukesh Kumar. Washington Sundar may once again be back in the XI in place of Ravichandran Ashwin.

Verdict
The gains of Perth win evaporated quickly as India capitulated in Adelaide under the lights. Travis Head continues to torment them, and I am backing him to once again put India under stress. I am backing Australia to win here, especially if Bumrah is unavailable for the visitors.
