Pakistan Cricket
Pakistan have been one of the most consistent teams in the top tier of professional cricket since achieving Test match status back in 1952. The national team is governed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
While Pakistan have found stability at the top level, and the team has often been lauded for being mercurial in high-pressure situations, like international tournaments. Pakistan won the ICC World Cup in 1992 under the captaincy of Imran Khan, a landmark moment in the country’s achievements on the international stage. Pakistan also won the T20 World Cup in 2009 and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017.
Pakistan’s first ever Test match was against India at the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground in Delhi in October 1952. The team played their first ODI almost two decades later, against New Zealand in February 1973. Pakistan’s first T20I was against England in August 2006.
Pakistan’s domestic and local cricket has been hit by concerns around security due to terrorism, particularly after a horrendous attack on the Sri Lanka national team in 2009. However, cricket has slowly started to return to Pakistan with those security concerns easing in the last few years.

Quaid-e-Azam Trophy
The Quaid-e-Azam Trophy is the premier first-class tournament in domestic cricket in Pakistan. The first edition of the QEA Trophy was held back in 1953-54. The competition was named after Muhammad Ali Jinnah, known as the Quaid-e-Azam, or Great Leader. In the first competition, seven teams participated in the QEA Trophy: Sindh, Combined Services, Pakistan Railways, Bahawalpur, Karachi, Punjab and North West Frontier Province.
The QEA Trophy has undergone several changes over the years to its format, number of participating teams and schedule. Currently, the format includes a match points system (16 points for an outright win, 5 for a draw and 8 for a tie) along with a bonus points format.
Pakistan Cup
The Pakistan Cup is the top List A tournament in Pakistan, held by the PCB. The first edition of the tournament was held in 2008-09 as the Pentagular One Day Cup. The tournament was renamed in 2016 as the Pakistan Cup.
Teams play each other twice in a double round-robin format followed by two semi-finals and a final. The participating teams are Balochistan, Central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Northern, Sindh and Southern Punjab.
Pakistan Super League (PSL)
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is Pakistan’s top-tier T20 domestic tournament, played by six franchises. The league was set up in 2015 by the PCB followed by the inaugural tournament in 2016.
The format of the PSL is a double round robin system followed by a playoffs series that includes the top four teams after the group stage. The PSL is usually held in February and March annually.
Six teams participate in the PSL: Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators.
