It is a real pick of the Australia batters at the moment with most of the top order doing their job. The runs total for opener Matthew Short is giving the most value in match 3, sitting at just 25.5 on his over/under. Short went for 19 in match 2 and will be out to cement his spot as the opener in the Australian ODI squad.

With the ball it is all about Mitch Starc. The Australian quick was a menace for the the Aussies and will pepper the openers of England and be the difference again with 2+ wickets.

England Form

The English bowlers found some form in match two of the series with the pitch at Leeds giving good pace and life to the ball that had the Aussie batting attack looking slightly unstable for the first time in the UK.

Matt Potts (2/30) and Brydon Carse (3/75) got good movement early and had Australia in a vulnerable position at 6/161, however they couldn’t finish the job with Australia putting up another 89 runs from there.

The run chase never really got off the ground with the revived bowling attack of Australia on full show. Opener Ben Duckett (32 runs) put together a passable start while his partners fell around him. Jamie Smith came within one-run of his half century, but when the keeper’s wicket fell so did the hopes of England’s chase.

England Squad

Jos Buttler (captain), Jofra Archer, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Jordan Cox, Ben Duckett, Josh Hull, Will Jacks, Matthew Potts, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Jamie Smith, Olly Stone, Reece Topley and John Turner

Australia Form

Alex Carey and captain Mitch Marsh were the heroes for Australia, steadying the ship for the visitors who were troubled a little early from the bowling attack of England. Marsh’s 60 runs settled the top order but things were looking ominous at 6/161, however, Carey (74 runs) was able to make sure that the tail wagged with the bottom order staying alive and while watching the wicket keeper tick the scoreboard overcame the

In come the original quicks to defend the 270 run total and after being out with illness last game they showed no signs of struggle. Mitchell Starc’s first game in the UK was strong with figures of 3/50 and an economy of just 5.32 runs per over, while Josh Hazlewood also finished with 2/52.

The impressive thing about the Australian’s this tour has been their part timers or allrounders. Aaron Hardie was phenomenal with 2/26 from 8 overs bowled and Glenn Maxwell was going to let him steal the show, going 2/15 from 6 overs helping the Australian bowl England out for just 202 runs from 40.2 overs.
