After a controversial match that hinged around the concussion substitute, India closed out the series against England with a win in the fourth T20I in Pune. The series now ends in Mumbai on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium, starting from 7 pm IST.

England may have a grouse with how the concussion sub was allowed to be a proper bowler, but they will have no complaints over their poor performances. They lost a game they should have won and will be smarting over that. This is a great chance for them to end the series with a win, and I am backing the visitors here.

India has played England in 28 T20Is so far, with 16 wins for India and 12 victories for England. The last time before this series they played was in the semi-final of the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup when India won by 68 runs.

India won the first match at the Eden Gardens by seven wickets. The second match in Chennai on Saturday was closer, with India scraping past by two wickets. England came back to win the third T20I in Rajkot by 26 runs, but India closed out the series in the fourth T20I in Pune with a 15-run win.

India Form

India’s struggles with the bat continued, as their top order crumbled against the pace in Pune. Yet, the strength of the middle and lower orders helped them coast through. Of course, the concussion substitution of Harshit Rana helped their case as well.

The series showcased the struggles of Suryakumar Yadav (26 runs) and Sanju Samson (35 runs). Abhishek Sharma (144 runs, SR 197.26) is doing no harm to his credentials as a T20 specialist.

Spinners led the show for India with 24 wickets in the series, as Varun Chakaravarthy (12) is leading the show (ER 7.06).

Shivam Dube’s concussion means it could be a chance for Ramandeep Singh or Harshit Rana. Mohammed Shami could get a game in place of Arshdeep Singh or Ravi Bishnoi.

England Form

England improved their game against Indian spinners as the series progressed and could have won the fourth T20I. That said, there’s still a lot to do for their middle order, which keeps collapsing regularly.

Only Jos Buttler (139 runs, SR 140.40) has aggregated more than 97 runs for the visitors, which sums up their batting struggles. Ben Duckett (SR 170.17) would love to transform his strike rate into a meaningful score here.

Among the bowlers, Adil Rashid (ER 6.50) remains a tough cookie, while Jamie Overton and Brydon Carse (six wickets each) have shown the advantage of using the hard lengths.

Jofra Archer could be rested by the visitors with Gus Atkinson likely to shuffle back in his place. There could be a temptation to give a game to Rehan Ahmed in place of Rashid, while Jamie Smith could be back in the playing XI in place of Jacob Bethell.
