India vs England Fourth T20I

England kept the series alive with a comfortable win in the third T20I forcing India to wait for the champagne to pop up. The hosts get a chance to win the series in Pune by winning the fourth T20I at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Friday from 7 pm IST.

India did all the running in the first two matches, but England bounced back really well in the third game in Rajkot. The hosts know that they haven’t clicked in all departments, especially their batting at the top. This could be their chance to shine, and I am backing the home team here.

  • India won 15 of their last 17 matches (T20Is).
  • India won 5 of their last 6 home matches (T20Is).
  • England lost 4 of their last 5 away matches to India (T20Is).
  • England lost their only match they played here against India (T20Is).

Head to Head

India played England in 27 T20Is so far with 15 wins for India and 12 victories for England. The last time before this series they played was in the semi-final of the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup when India won by 68 runs.

India won the first match at the Eden Gardens by seven wickets. The second match in Chennai on Saturday was closer, with India scraping past by two wickets. England came back to win the third T20I in Rajkot by 26 runs.

India Form

India has had a strange series so far—comfortable winners in the first, scraping through in the second, and brushed aside in the third. Not strangely enough, their inability to force the issue has been their problem, allowing England to score more than they should.

Abhishek Sharma (115 runs, SR 212.96) remains India’s best bet with the bat, but that has left them praying for captain Suryakumar Yadav (26 runs) and Sanju Samson (34) to get into form here.

There are no such troubles in the bowling department, where Varun Chakaravarthy (10 wickets, ER 7.08) seems to be head and shoulders above everyone else.

India Team News

Arshdeep Singh rested for the third T20I but could be back here in place of Ravi Bishnoi. India may also think hard about Dhruv Jurel’s place in the playing XI, with Shivam Dube or Ramandeep Singh likely to push for an inclusion.

England Form

England’s Bazball tactics didn’t quite work out in the first match, but they improved as the series progressed. They are still far from finding a settled XI, though, which is both a boon and a bane.

Captain Jos Buttler (137 runs) has impressed in the series so far, while Ben Duckett has come into his own in the third match with a fifty. The worrying factor, though, is the absence of runs from the other top-order batters.

The bowlers have shared the wicket-taking duties, but it’s the veteran Adil Rashid (three wickets) who has impressed with his ER of 5.60 in the series.

England Team News

Phil Salt was replaced behind the wickets by Jamie Smith, and England may wonder if they want to replace Salt in the playing XI with Jacob Bethell. If they want to rest one of Archer or Wood, Gus Atkinson could step in.

Verdict

England enjoyed the middle-over supremacy in the last two matches, with the win in the third T20I underlined by Rashid’s impressive performance. India could look to bounce back strongly and close out the series here. I am backing the home team to win here.
