The Caribbean Premier League is a T20 tournament held annually in West Indies. The first edition of the competition was held back in 2013.

Plans for the Caribbean Premier League first began in September of 2012 as the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) announced a domestic league in the region to replicate the success of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Big Bash League (BBL). Soon after, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) was announced to take place in July 2013.

The inaugural champions of the CPL were the Jamaica Tallawahs, while the most successful team in the history of the tournament are the Trinbago Knight Riders.

Caribbean Premier League Teams & Format

Six teams participate in the annual tournament. In the 2024 edition, the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons replaced the Jamaica Tallawahs, who won the tournament three times – in 2013, 2016 and 2022.

The CPL now has two defunct teams: the Antigua Hawksbills (2013-2014) and the Tallawahs (2013-2023).

    Current Teams:

    • Antigua & Barbuda Falcons
    • Barbados Royals
    • Guyana Amazon Warriors
    • St Kitts & Nevis Patriots
    • Saint Lucia Kings
    • Trinbago Knight Riders

The CPL follows a double round robin format followed by a playoffs series. Typically, six teams participate in the CPL, with each team playing 10 matches in the round robin stage followed by four playoffs matches, including a final.

After the group stage, the top four teams qualify for the playoffs. The top two teams face each other in a qualifier, with the winner advancing straight to the final.

Teams that are positioned third and fourth play each other in an eliminator, with the loser knocked out of the competition.

The winner of the eliminator and the loser of the first qualifier play each other in the third playoffs game, with the winner moving on to the final.
