West Indies vs England Third T20I

Pressure is on the West Indies to improve as they come into the third T20I of the five-match series with a 2-0 deficit. Will the change of scenery help the hosts start a comeback? The third match will be played at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Gros Islet in the early morning hours of Friday, IST.

The West Indies failed to live up to the expectations generated after an impressive performance in the T20 World Cup, but defeats in the first two matches pulled them back. There’s something about the Windies teams, though, that makes them attractive in this format. I am going against the wind to back the West Indies to win here.

Head to Head

West Indies and England played 32 T20Is so far, of which there have been 15 wins for England and 17 wins for the West Indies.

The visitors won the first two matches of this series by eight wickets and seven wickets, respectively. These wins made it five victories for England across the last six matches between these teams.

West Indies Form

The weekend at Barbados wasn’t a happy experience for the West Indies team, who lost both the T20Is there. The first match saw them post a respectable 182, but the second match saw them score just 158.

Captain Rovman Powell admitted that his side has been struggling to find individuals who stand up and be counted. That could be seen from the fact that no batter could cross 43 in the two matches in the series.

Bowlers have struggled too, with only Romario Shepherd (three) taking more than one wicket. Yet only Akeal Hosein conceded at 5.50 runs per over, while most others conceded at more than ten runs per over.

West Indies Team News

Alzarri Joseph is back after getting suspended and replaces Shamar Joseph in the squad. Andre Russell is also out of the series, replaced by Shamar Springer.

England Form

England managed to lift themselves up after losing the ODI series 2-1 and are on the cusp of winning the series with another win. They now need just one more victory from the last three matches to do that.

The visitors have enjoyed batting dominance in the series, led by Phil Salt’s 103 runs at a SR of 187.27. Only five batters were able to get a hit in the middle, which could prove to be trouble later in the series.

There are no such troubles with the ball, as Saqib Mahmood’s six wickets and Adil Rashid's four have been leading them with aplomb.

England Team News

Jordan Cox and Jafer Chohan have left the squad for their other commitments, which leaves the England squad thin. John Turner could get a debut in place of Jofra Archer, whose workload is still being monitored.

Verdict

History suggests that England has had an upper hand over the West Indies, especially in recent times. That may be up for a change here, especially as the series is on the line for the home team. I am putting my neck out here and backing West Indies to win.
