Sunrisers Hyderabad may be plotting another surprise result as a hurt Gujarat Titans look to stop their slide down the table in the IPL 2025 campaign when the sides meet on Friday. These teams have played each other five times, with four wins for the Titans and just a solitary win for the Sunrisers.

They already played once earlier in the season in Hyderabad when the Titans won by seven wickets with 3.2 overs to spare. SRH were limited to 152 for 8 batting first, with Mohammed Siraj (4 for 17) wreaking havoc. The chase was over in a canter with Shubman Gill (61* off 43) playing anchor, while Washington Sundar (49 off 29) and Sherfane Rutherford (35* off 16) were the aggressors.

After 49 matches, the Titans have 12 points (W6, L3) and are two points adrift of leaders RCB. Even if Mumbai beats Rajasthan on Thursday and replaces Bengaluru, the Gujarat Titans will still start this match in fourth.

That places them in a tricky place as Delhi (12) and Lucknow (10) are breathing down their necks. An eight-wicket loss to Rajasthan last time out was a morale-crusher, although three consecutive wins at this venue should cheer them up.

The Sunrisers are ninth in the points table with six points (W3, L6) and are only clinging on to their chances. If Rajasthan loses to Mumbai by a big margin and their NRR plummets, Hyderabad could start this match in eighth.

That doesn’t change the fact that their playoff chances are only mathematical at this point. A five-wicket win over Chennai last time out was a relief from the twin defeats to Mumbai, but they haven’t won consecutive matches this season.

Batters continue to flop, with Heinrich Klaasen (288 runs, SR 156.52) topping their scoring charts. Their only bowler to take more than ten wickets is Harshal Patel (13), but his ER (9.03) tells the story.
