Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru IPL
Notorious slow starters Mumbai Indians will be desperate for a turnaround of their fortunes as they host Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Monday. This match, #20 of the IPL 2025 season, will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from 7:30 pm IST.

Only net run rate has saved Mumbai from starting this round at the last spot, while RCB are closer to the top. Interestingly, this is a venue that has seen Mumbai dominate Bengaluru, but will that continue here? Looking at the way they have been starting this season, I am putting my money on RCB winning the powerplay.
- Bengaluru have scored the most powerplay runs in 3 of their last 4 matches.
- Mumbai conceded the most powerplay runs in 3 of their last 4 matches.
- RCB have conceded only 44 runs on average during the powerplays this season.
- Mumbai have won their last 6 matches at this venue against Bengaluru.
Head to Head
Mumbai Indians dominated this matchup traditionally, winning 21 of the 35 matches they played against the Royal Challengers. The Bengaluru outfit managed to win just 13, while one ended without a result.
The story is completely different at this venue, as Mumbai have an 8-3 win-loss record here, winning eight of the last nine.
Mumbai Indians Form
Mumbai have two points from four matches and are eighth in the points tally after Saturday’s matches. Only net run rate is keeping them above the two teams below them.
The MI side lost to Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Lucknow Super Giants. Their only win against Kolkata Knight Riders came at this venue.
With Rohit Sharma (21 runs) and Tilak Varma (SR 113.09) struggling for runs, Mumbai are deprived of two of their best batters. The bowling unit is led by captain Hardik Pandya (eight wickets, ER 7.50), who has taken five of those wickets in their last match.
Mumbai Indians Team News
Rohit Sharma was injured for their last match, which led to a top-order shuffle. If he comes back, Will Jacks could sit out for Bevon Jacobs or Corbin Bosch, while Raj Bawa will miss out.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru Form
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have four points from three matches and are second in the points tally after Saturday’s matches. They are tied on points with five other teams but have a better run rate than all the others.
That’s because of the massive wins over Kolkata (seven wickets and 22 balls remaining) and Chennai (50 runs). They come here on the back of a defeat, though, losing by eight wickets at home to Gujarat Titans.
The middle-order batting is yet to settle down for the Royal Challengers, as only Phil Salt (102 runs, SR 170) has started the season with some runs under his belt. The bowlers have been blowing hot and cold, although Josh Hazlewood (six wickets, ER 7.26) has been consistent.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru Team News
Devdutt Padikkal’s poor form could be under scrutiny, as the inclusion of Jacob Bethell could give them firepower in the middle overs. Tim David may sit out in that case, with Manoj Bhandage likely to get a game.

Verdict
Mumbai will be keen to make their home advantage count as their seasonal start has been poor. They can’t let things go far away from them, but Bengaluru have already won this season at Chennai – a venue that wasn’t kind to them historically. I am looking at the stats and backing RCB to have a more productive powerplay than MI.
