    Teams & Format

The Kwibuka T20 Tournament was first established in 2014 by the Rwanda Cricket Association. While it began with only two teams taking part in Rwanda and Uganda, it has quickly grown into an inter-continental event that has involved teams like Brazil and Germany.

The teams involved in the 2025 iteration are:

    • Brazil
    • Cameroon
    • Malawi
    • Nigeria
    • Rwanda
    • Sierra Leone
    • Tanzania
    • Uganda
    • Zimbabwe

The competition follows a single round-robin format in the group-stage. This is then followed by two semi-finals between the top four sides. The teams that lose this semi-final battle in the 3rd place play off. The teams that win the semi-finals will move into the final, with silverware on the line.

    History & Winners

The competition has been running since 2014, and it has grown massively since then. The debut season saw just Uganda and Rwanda playing, with this ending in the former lifting the trophy. The next season then saw Kenya added, and they romped to the trophy in 2015.

Since then, all of Botswana, Brazil, Cameroon, Germany, Malawi, Mali, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Zimbabwe have all taken part at different stages.

In 2025, Brazil, Cameroon, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe are all taking part. Only Rwanda have been a part of all 10 competitions, with Uganda playing in nine iterations.

As for the most decorated nation in the history of the competition, Kenya have won four trophies and one silver medal in seven appearances. Uganda have technically placed more times, but they have only notched three gold medals along with five silvers. Despite appearing in all 10 iterations, Rwanda have only won the competition once.
