Sri Lanka’s long history includes achieving Associate Member status back in 1965 before becoming a Full Member of the ICC in 1981, which was the year they achieved Test status.

Sri Lanka Premier League

The Lanka Premier League (LPL) has taken over as Sri Lanka’s premier T20 domestic tournament.

After the league was postponed multiple times after its intended launch in 2018, including due to administrative concerns and the Covid-19 pandemic, the first edition of the LPL was held in 2020.

Five teams participate in the LPL in a double round-robin format followed by a playoffs series. Colombo Strikers, Dambulla Sixers, Galle Marvels, Jaffna Kings and the Kandy Falcons are the five teams that comprise the LPL.

Jaffna Kings are the most successful team in the LPL, having won the tournament four times.

T20 League

Another shorter inter-provincial T20 tournament, called the National Super League T20, is played in Sri Lanka.

This competition has faced several issues, including relevance and availability of top-tier talent, which has resulted in multiple changes to the tournament’s format.

Limited Overs Tournament

The National Super League Limited Over Tournament is an annual List A competition in Sri Lanka, with its first edition held in 2022.

The tournament is usually played in a double round-robin format followed by a single final.

Kandy, Colombo, Jaffna, Galle and Dambulla are the five teams that participate in the National Super League Limited Over Tournament.

Various club teams combine to form one main team from each region.
