    West Indies Cricket

Managed by Cricket West Indies (CWI), West Indies is one of the oldest cricket-playing nations in the world, with a history that dates back more than a century. A cluster of countries in the Caribbean islands make up the official West Indies cricket team.

West Indies first gained Full Member status from the International Cricket Council (ICC) back in 1926 before they attained Test status two years later, in 1928. West Indies played their first Test against England at Lord’s in June 2028.

From the 1970s till the end of the 1980s, West Indies’ cricket team was a dominant powerhouse. During that period, West Indies won two ODI World Cups, in 1975 and 1979. In 1983, West Indies were beaten by India in the final of the World Cup. West Indies played their first ODI against England in Leeds in September 1973.

With the advent of T20 cricket, West Indies soon began to make their name as one of the most powerful teams in the format. This led to West Indies winning two T20 World Cups, in 2012 and 2016. West Indies played their first T20I in 2006 against New Zealand in Auckland.
