Only net run rate separates these two teams, both harbouring hopes of reaching the playoffs. Mumbai’s recent form gives them a slight edge.

Mumbai won their last 4 matches.
At the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai won 3 of their last 4 matches.
Lucknow lost 2 of their last 3 matches.

Head to Head

Lucknow dominated this fixture over the years, winning six of the seven matches they played against Mumbai. That included three wins in a row, including a 12-run win in the reverse fixture earlier in the season in Lucknow.

Mitchell Marsh (60) and Aiden Markram (53) led Lucknow to 203 for 8 batting first. The bowlers kept taking crucial wickets, and Avesh Khan bowled some crucial spells as the Mumbai Indians ended up at 191 for 5.

Mumbai Indians Form

Mumbai Indians are fourth in the standings with ten points (W5, L4), level on points with Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants below them. They are only two points behind the two teams above.

After a stuttering start, Mumbai bounced back with four wins in a row. That included a seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad away from home on Wednesday.

SKY (373 runs, Avg. 62.16) remains their best batter, while Rohit Sharma (228 runs, SR 154.05) sprung to life in the last two matches. Among the bowlers, Hardik Pandya (12) and Trent Boult (10) have been the most successful.

Mumbai Indians Team News

Vignesh Puthur played in Hyderabad in their last game, but Mumbai could go back to Ashwani Kumar if it’s a red soil pitch. Else, they may stick with Vignesh.

Lucknow Super Kings Form

Lucknow Super Giants are sixth in the standings with 10 points (W5, L4) after 43 matches in the season. Their NRR is only marginally in the negative, but that may prove important in a tight battle for playoff spots.

They were beaten by Delhi Capitals by eight wickets in their last match, and Lucknow also lost to Chennai Super Kings (five wickets) in their last three matches.

They continue to depend on the overseas trio of Nicholas Pooran, Mitchell Marsh, and Aiden Markram (all three scoring 326 or more) for runs. The bowling duties are led by Shardul Thakur (12 wickets), while Digvesh Rathi (nine wickets, ER 7.27) has been a surprise.

Lucknow Super Kings Team News

Lucknow played the same team in their last two fixtures but may look to shuffle, with Prince Yadav likely to give way to Akash Deep.

Verdict

Mumbai Indians v Lucknow Super Giants

When they are on a roll, the Mumbai Indians usually find ways to pick up wins. They have struggled against Lucknow Super Giants over the years but should fancy breaking that jinx here. I am putting my money on the Mumbai Indians to win.
