Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders IPL

Chennai Super Kings will hope they can turn their fortunes around as they face an inconsistent Kolkata Knight Riders team at home. This match will be fixture #25 of the IPL 2025 edition and will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, April 11, from 7:30 pm IST.

The season has been nothing but a disaster for CSK, who have even lost at their fortress to Bengaluru and Delhi in their last two matches. There’s still time to mount a comeback, but with the margins so thin, they can’t afford to leave things late. Yet, it is the KKR side that still looks good value to hit the most 6s, if not win the match.

Kolkata scored the most 6s in 8 of their last 11 matches.
Chennai conceded the most 6s in their last 4 matches.
Kolkata scored 42 sixes this season, while Chennai scored 31.
Chennai conceded 49 sixes in their five matches this season.

Head to Head

This is a fixture that the Chennai Super Kings have dominated, with 20 wins from their 31 matches. The Super Kings even enjoyed recent success, winning six of the last eight matches.

That included a seven-wicket win at this venue last season. Ravindra Jadeja’s 3 for 18 and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s unbeaten 67 did the trick for CSK.

After Wednesday, Chennai are ninth in the standings with two points from five matches. They are separated by only NRR from Mumbai above them and Hyderabad below.

They are coming off four consecutive defeats, two of which have come at home. Even the famous Chepauk fortress seems to be crumbling, as problems seem to pop up all around the park.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (122 runs) and Rachin Ravindra (145 runs) may have hit some form, but there are so many gaping holes in the batting order. The bowling looks lopsided with Noor Ahmad and Khaleel Ahmed sharing 21 wickets between them and the rest sharing 14 among themselves.

Is it time to revive the Ravindra – Gaikwad partnership at the top? That would open up a foreigner slot for CSK with either Sam Curran or Nathan Ellis chipping in.

Kolkata Knight Riders Form

At the end of Wednesday, KKR find themselves in sixth place with four points from five matches. They are marginally ahead of Rajasthan Royals on NRR.

It has been an inconsistent season for the defending champions, and underlining that is their alternating sequence of loss and win. They are yet to win or lose consecutive matches this season.

Ajinkya Rahane (184 runs) has found some crucial runs, but the middle order has gone missing when needed. With the ball, Varun Chakaravarthy (six wickets, ER 6.57) seems to be on a planet of his own, while others seem to struggle for efficiency.

Spin conditions here could warrant inclusion of Moeen Ali in place of Spencer Johnson. Rahmanullah Gurbaz may also be knocking on the doors to replace Quinton de Kock.

Verdict

Chennai Super Kings v Kolkata Knight Riders - T20

It hasn’t been a consistent season for either Kolkata or Chennai. The Super Kings are in a bigger mess than their visitors. There’s nothing in their recent performances that suggests a pattern to back either side. I am dipping into other markets and feel there’s value in backing KKR to hit the most 6s of the match.
