Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Delhi Capitals IPL FAQs

With only four games left, the Sunrisers need to win all and hope things work favourably for them elsewhere. The Capitals are right in the playoff mix, and a win here will see them throw their hat in the mix for a top-three finish. I am putting my money on Delhi to deliver.

Delhi won 6 of their last 9 matches at this venue.
Sunrisers Hyderabad lost 6 of their last 8 matches against the Delhi Capitals.
Hyderabad lost 3 of their 4 recent matches.
At this venue, the Sunrisers lost 3 of their last 4 matches.

Head to Head

There have been 25 matches between Hyderabad and Delhi so far, including their previous avatars. Of these, Hyderabad won 13 and Delhi won 12, including one via Super Over.

When the teams met earlier in the season in Visakhapatnam, the Capitals strolled to a seven-wicket win. Aniket Verma (74 off 41) played a blinder for Hyderabad to take them to 163 all out in 18.4 overs. Mitchell Starc (5 for 35) was sensational, while Kuldeep Yadav (3 for 22) lent good support. Faf du Plessis (50 off 27) blazed away at the top as the Capitals won with four overs to spare.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Form

After Saturday’s match, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have six points from 10 matches (W3, L7). A loss here would mean the maximum they can get would be 12 points, which is already bettered by four teams, so they would be eliminated.

They lost to the Gujarat Titans by 38 runs, which makes it a third defeat in their last four matches. Two of their three seasonal wins have come at this venue, although they were beaten in three of the four recent matches here.

Abhishek Sharma (314 runs, SR 180.45) has been blowing hot and cold, while Harshal Patel (13 wickets, ER 9.50) continues to take wickets despite conceding runs aplenty.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Team News

The top order continues to be inconsistent, but will Hyderabad change their top three of Head, Abhishek, and Ishan Kishan? Mohammed Shami has been far too expensive and could be given a break.

Delhi Capitals Form

Delhi are fifth in the standings with 12 points (W6, L4). They are one point behind Punjab and two points above Lucknow. With those two teams facing off on Sunday, the Capitals may be hoping for a Lucknow win, which will enable them to move into the top four with a victory here!

The Capitals have only themselves to blame, as their recent blip has come at the wrong time, dragging them down the table. A 14-run defeat to KKR last time out was their third loss in four matches.

KL Rahul (371 runs, SR 146.06) has been Mr Consistent for the Capitals, although his last two knocks have been slow-paced. Starc (14) and Kuldeep (12 wickets, ER 6.74) continue to lead their bowling charts.

Delhi Capitals Team News

Karun Nair lost momentum after starting his campaign with a sparkling knock against Mumbai. Dushmantha Chameera was expensive in his last two outings, and they could refresh their bowling attack.

Verdict

Sunrisers Hyderabad v Delhi Capitals - T20

The stakes are high for both teams, although Hyderabad may have left things far too late in the season. Their inconsistencies are similar to what Delhi have endured in recent games, but the Capitals have enough quality to bounce back. I am backing Delhi to win here.
